In celebration of Black History Month, THE SCHOOL BELL with Linda Bell presents...FRONT TO BLACK HISTORY - a look at black firsts in business.

In 1992, he was Chairman and CEO of the first black-owned business to generate over a billion dollars in annual sales. Do you know who he is?

Reginald Lewis

In 1987, Reginald F. Lewis and an unknown two man team outbid huge firms like Citicorp to secure the purchase of Beatrice Foods. At $985 million, the deal was the largest leveraged buyout of overseas assets by an American company at that time. In 1992, as Chairman and CEO of the new TLC Beatrice International, the company had sales of over $1.8 billion annually. This made the company the first black-owned business to generate a billion dollars in annual sales. Click on his picture to read more about him. (Content courtesy: ReginaldLewis.com)
